Technical Assistance

Strengthening the ability of states and non-state actors to develop and implement practical approaches to knowledge governance.

Where we offer support:

We support states and non-state actors through a variety of mechanisms, from research and analysis to expert legal input, to direct support to negotiators (for example, the Like-Minded Countries Group at the World Intellectual Property Organization).

We have provided technical assistance on the following processes:

WIPO Committees and Governing Bodies

The Geneva Centre on Knowledge Governance (CKG) experts have provided input and support to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) member states at all of its standing permanent committees, including: the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property, the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore, the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents, the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, and the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights. We have also provided technical support for member states participating in WIPO Governing Bodies, such as the General Assembly, as well as during several Diplomatic Conferences.

In gratitude for technical support provided during the Diplomatic Conference on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge, the Permanent Mission of Indonesia wrote a letter of appreciation calling the expertise provided “instrumental in achieving the positive final outcome” of the Treaty on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge. CKG experts have had significant involvement in the negotiation of the following treaties:

WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge

Riyadh Design Law Treaty
